Apple

From June to August 2024, I interned at Apple as a Beats UI/UX Design intern in the Culver City office! Over the course of the summer, I met incredible people, learned amazing things, and honed my design skills. I was able to work with people from many different teams and offices, and got to know the other talented interns!

Being part of Beats yet also part of Apple was a special experience because it has kept its initial uniqueness and vibrancy, which was consistently reflected in the collaboration and work style dynamic in the office. I felt welcomed from beginning to end, and it was encouraged to make things happen.

UI/UX @ Beats

Beats occupies a unique niche in that it is tailored to both Apple and Android users, having its UI integrated seamlessly into Apple's native system and an Android application with over 3.2 million user downloads.

I primarily worked with project managers, QA, and SW developers on improving usability and functions for the Beats Android application, including on product pages, widgets, and settings. In addition, I helped improve documentation for Beats internal and customer facing platforms.

Above is the existing UI, which I helped ideate changes to improve clarity and user experience. I presented several design iterations on how to change the naming conventions to more clearly convey that there are two speakers connected in Amplify and Stereo mode, as well as conveying information such as speaker name, color, and battery percentage.

Intern Project @ Beats

One of my long term assignments was to pitch an improvement to an existing or a new design for Apple. The open-endedness of this project gave me the ability to pioneer my own direction, talk to a large variety of people, and receive helpful feedback.

My project was an app that would engage both Apple and Android users to enhance interaction and participation in the social realm of music. I created sketches, wireframes, product pages, and low and high fidelity prototypes in Sketch, and implemented changes based on feedback I received throughout. I presented my proposal, consisting of design research and a prototype walkthrough to various internal stakeholders and executives at the end of my internship.
